SANDL is based on the ancient Indian Snakes and Ladders board game. It can be played by one or two players. The object of the game is to navigate the board according to the die or dice rolls, from the start (bottom square) to the finish (square with the star). The players will be helped or hindered by ladders and snakes, representing virtues and vices in life, respectively. The player who collects all the virtues and navigate to the finish wins the game.
Initially, like the traditional game, it is based on luck but on higher levels where there is more than one die it also becomes a game of skill. The game can help the player learn the 4 arithmetic operators or test a more advanced players speed of calculation and strategy. The number of squares in the game, time allowed and maximum level can all be set by the player (as well as the player icons, colours of the board and squares!)
